20. The BEST amp? This is a pretty good argument. | Telecaster Guitar Forum

  • It certainly is quite versatile. It covers blues, pop, country, jazz, indie...you name it, it covers it. Hendrix used it in the studio way more than he used Marshalls. I think the best all-around tube amp for me is the Princeton Reverb. It most definitely is a personal choice.

FAQs

Why did Jimmy Page use a Les Paul? ›

"I knew that Les Paul guitars were very user-friendly, insomuch as they put out a lot of level when you plugged them into the amplifier because they had a double-coil pickup, whereas the Telecaster had a single-coil pickup," he explained.

How can I make my Les Paul easier to play? ›

Once you've decided on the overall pickup height and achieved an even balance between low to top E strings, try finessing the string-to-string response by adjusting the pole screws. Using keen ears and a screwdriver, you can make those pickups really sing and your Les Paul may seem easier to play.

What makes a Les Paul sound so good? ›

Mahogany Body with Maple Top

This duo creates a balanced tonal spectrum unlike any other. The deep, resonant characteristics of mahogany complement the brightness and clarity provided by the maple top, resulting in a harmonious blend of warm lows and crisp highs that define the Les Paul's versatile sound.

Why did Jimmy Page stop playing Telecaster? ›

There have been reports that Page was having problems with one of the pickups in the Dragon Tele in early '69, and in April of that year he replaced the “magical guitar" when he purchased the Les Paul, and it's unclear if he planned to return to the Dragon with any regularity in the future.

What guitar did Jimmy Page play the most? ›

“Number One” – 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard

This is Page's main guitar, hence the name. He got this guitar in 1969 from Joe Walsh, and he's played it consistently ever since. It likely featured on most Led Zeppelin albums. Page has made numerous modifications to this guitar over the years.

Are Les Pauls harder to play than Strats? ›

The shorter scale length of a Les Paul has makes the strings a little easier to play, but the light weight and body contours of a Strat make it more comfortable. Many professional guitar players prefer a Les Paul due to its shorter scale because it allows greater ease of use.

Which Les Paul is easiest to play? ›

I would say that an Epiphone Les Paul Studio would be a great guitar for a beginner, but it would also be just fine for much more experienced players. The only difference between the Studio model and the Standard models are the aesthetics (fancier finish and hardware on the Standard).

What's easier to play, Fender or Gibson? ›

In contrast, Fender guitars typically have thinner necks, which provide enhanced comfort and ease of playability, particularly for players with smaller hands. The neck construction greatly influences the overall playing experience and should be considered when choosing between Gibson and Fender guitars.

How do I get the best tone from my Les Paul? ›

Trick 1: Woman Tone

To achieve the Woman Tone, you'll want to use the rhythm pickup (neck pickup) and turn down the tone knob for that specific pickup. This combination gives you that characteristic nasally sound. By playing around with the volume and tone knobs, you can fine-tune the intensity of the Woman Tone.

Why do Gibsons sound so good? ›

On a Gibson style scale, the harmonics you get from lightly touching the string with your left hand are closer together and the tone is slightly thicker and warmer. On the other hand, the harmonics on a Fender scale are more spaced out which helps contribute to the guitars bell-like tone and 'chimey' sound.

What is special about a Gibson Les Paul? ›

Everything about today's Les Paul Standard aims to create the same playing experience and sound of the Les Pauls from Gibson's golden era. The Gibson Les Paul Standard is a true solid body guitar with no weight relief in its mahogany body. This solidbody design presents a rich tone while mitigating resonant feedback.

What is Jimmy Page Les Paul wiring? ›

It's a complex and super-flexible wiring scheme for guitars equipped with a pair of 4-conductor humbuckers that are each connected to a set of volume and tone controls. This has become a famous Les Paul mod and, in this context, it's widely known as the "Jimmy Page" wiring.

Why was Les Paul significant? ›

Arguably, Les Paul is the most important individual in the history of the modern music industry. His influence is profound, having been a pioneer in the development of the solid body electric guitar as well as numerous recording techniques including multi-track recording, digital delay, reverb, and more.

Did Eric Clapton use a Les Paul? ›

The stolen Les Paul was nicknamed, Beano. It was the guitar Clapton used in his collaboration work with the Blues Breakers, in the album entitled Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton. The Les Paul was nicknamed Beano because Clapton was shown reading a Beano children's comics magazine in the album cover.
