Some of the greatest things about being a Salem Keizer public school student who attended McKay High school is the rich diversity & culture and the wonderful teachers and staff that have made a huge impact for the lives of their students. However there are some worst things like 400 educators being layed off or transferred for the 24-25 school year due to a lack of state funds. This has greatly impacted not only educators but the youths, kids, and future. It’s concerning when you learn history and it keeps repeating itself. Education has always had financial binds and issues. We spend more on wars than on our education. But with the great teachers I’ve had I believe we the youths will rise up one day and make a difference. Besides that sad news I feel Salem Keizer school district has given me the education to thrive in the future and make a difference.

This is a school district with so much potential, and yet it falls short. Our teachers are doing their best with terrible admin. Music and sports flourish while kids who aren't extraordinary fall through the cracks. Do better, superintendent. You have thoroughly crushed my dreams of wanting to be a teacher.

I loved attending the district. For my elementary school, I attended Liberty. For Middle School, I attended Leslie. While attending Middle school, Covid-19 hit and changed my life forever. I didn't go to outdoor school. There were some good memories and some not so much. As high school wraps, I look at my past and look forward to the future. The High school I attend is South Salem High School.
